Barbara Kennedy makes paintings and mixed media artworks. In 2020, as many artists continued to find inspiration and continue their work despite daunting changes, Barbara’s changes included a rapid vision degeneration. She was designated legally blind in the summer of 2020.
Despite this staggering obstacle Barbara has continued to work. By emphasizing aesthetics, Kennedy amplifies the astonishment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of recognition and alienation.
By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, she continues to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating that which develops through these new and different interpretations.
Her works appear as dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet, meanings shift, past and present fuse. Time and memory always play a key role. By applying a poetic and often metaphorical language, she seduces the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium and the intervals in which she articulates her undaunted artistic vision.
